Karlstadt for Explorers and Connoisseurs
Welcome to Karlstadt, a charming town located in the Franconian wine country along the river Main.
Behind one of the most beautiful skylines along the Main, the town reveals a particular charm to the visitor. Overlooking the town on the other side of the river, the Karlsburg Castle Ruins offers a spectacular view of Karlstadt and the region's unique natural landscape.
The carefully, yet impressively renovated old town at the gates of Würzburg, for which plans were conceived on a drawing-board around 1200, fascinates visitors and experts alike. Harldy surprising, since the layout of the Stauferzeit Era town has been kept almost unchanged. Highlights are the Romano-Gothic church, the historical town hall, the gates and towers of the town's old fortifications as well as the houses with their quite often elaborate half-timbered facades. In Karlstadt, one can experience history at every turn.
The cultural and social life in Karlstadt and its nine bouroughs is also worth experiencing. At the summer concert series "Musik in historischen Häusern und Höfen" (Music inside historical houses and courtyards), music lovers can enjoy cosy concerts on the private properties of some of Karlstadt's families. The "Kulinarische Meile" (Culinary Mile) is a highlight for all connoisseurs and those with a sweet tooth. After all, "indulgence" is spelled with a capital "I" in Karlstadt. In every season one will find a variety of local specialities on offer from which to choose: from the historical Cellar Restaurant and inns with homestyle cooking, to the more sophisticated restaurants all immersing the visitor in Franconian hospitality. At the wine festivals or at a "Heckenwirtschaft" (tavern selling homemade wine), visitors can familiarise themselves with wines from Karlstadt's best vineyards.
Karlstadt looks forward to welcoming you!
